2010 Alamo Bowl:
Michigan State vs. Texas Tech
The Alamo Bowl is one of America’s college football contests, and it is done yearly since 1993. The venue for these games is San Antonio, in the spacious Alamodome. This game showcases the 4th or 5th teams from the Big 12 and Big 10. (This is not the same as 4th and 5th places, however).
The Alamo Bowl went through different names. It was called Buildes Square Alamo Bowl from 1993 to 98, the Sylvania Alamo Bowl from 1999 to 2001, then the Mastercard Alamo Bowl in recent years. In 1996, the members of Iowa Hawkeyes donned black helmets to pay their respects to a linebacker’s mother (who died in a tragic vehicular accident). In 2002, the Alamo Bowl match-up between Wisconsin and Colorado turned out to be one for the record books, going into overtime.
Just last year, the game between Texas A&M Aggies and Penn State was witnessed by around 66,000 heads. It put a facility-record congregation for an athletic affair, breaking a previous record.
The number of Alamo Bowl tickets sold over the years is not the only impressive fact; this tradition has made 8 of the 20 most-watched bowl games (according to ESPN). In 2006, more than eight million viewers watched the battle between Texas State and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
If you would be buying tickets to watch a game in the Alamo Bowl for the very first time, be aware that the times and dates can change.
